Destination Germany: Automobiles!

One simply cannot go to Germany and not talk about cars. Even this Curvyafricandiva, who’s not really into cars (and really doesn’t know much about them except that they take me to where i want to go), has enjoyed the  the beautiful machinery on display on the streets of Berlin.

So without further ado…

I have seen so many beautiful machines; we are talking Mercedes Benz,  Chrysler, Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, Opel, Porsche, Range (oooh I fell in love- its a shame they were moving and I couldn’t take decent photos), you name it, all types of cars, new and old.

I was quite surprised though by the number of Japanese cars around and naively asked why a German would want to buy a Japanese car and without a beat, my young brother says ‘well not everyone can afford them’. I just got schooled by the kid.

Okay then, hope you enjoyed the show, I did… now to score myself a couple of free rides before I leave…

Love,

Me 🙂

Ps: Watch out for Part 2 as I get serious and post some seriously beautiful (and extremely expensive) machines.

Trust and Obey

I have been reading both books of Kings (1Kings and 2Kings) in the bible over the last week or so, initially because I wanted to refresh my memory of the works of Elijah and Elisha. ..but I’ve gotten something different from what I went looking for.

When you read Kings it feels like it’s just one story after another of how the kings of that day went against and disobeyed God’s word and chose to worship their own man-made idols. I keep thinking to myself, when will these people learn (it’s like when you are watching a horror film and the teenage girl goes up the stairs and you are like ‘don’t go there!’), that’s how I feel reading the stories.

It got me thinking. We have all these examples in the bible of how God chose kings to rule his land and lead his people yet over and again they chose to disobey, yet how many times do we disobey? We have the examples in His word of what happened to these kings, yet still we disobey. Why? Why do we put more trust in our own ‘man-made’ idols (connections for example)?

I myself have not trusted and not obeyed on many occasions in my life. I am so thankful for His grace and mercy and for the new covenant through Jesus because if you are familiar with Kings, you will know the punishment dished out to these kings for disobedience was《death》.

Another thing that struck me is how as human beings our traits and behaviours haven’t changed much from that day and age.

When you read the story of Elisha you will know that he was a prophet through whom God spoke to the kings. In 2 Kings 7: 1-2 Elisha prophesied about the price of flour reducing, bringing an end to the famine, but the kings officer did not believe him. Elisha then told the officer that he would see it with his own eyes but not eat it. In the same chapter we see the prophesy coming true and the same officer not eating the fruits of it because he was trampled to death.

Many of us are members of churches that we chose to go to of our own accord yet we refuse to believe the words delivered to us by the men (or women) of God of those very churches we chose to go to. We have become so desperate to ‘hear from God’ yet when we do, we are like the officer that was trampled to death. We keep searching for the next prophet that will tell us what we want to hear or what is more believable in our own understanding. Could this be why there are a lot of false prophets? (Okay I won’t touch that topic). Have we forgotten that nothing is impossible for God?

All I’m asking is why go to that church if you don’t believe that (and what) God is speaking to you through the man (or woman) of God?

In conclusion (this entry seems to be a bit essay-ish). The bible I’m using is the ‘Life Application Bible’ and in relation to the above, it has this to say “God gives each person strengths and abilities that will find their greatest usefulness only under His control. Outside that control, however, they don’t accomplish what they could and often become tools for evil. One way to make sure this does not happen is to tell God your willingness to be under His control. With His presence in your life, your natural strengths and abilities will be used to their greatest potential for the greatest good”

I choose today to trust and obey. I choose for my strengths and abilities to be under God’s control.

Food for thought.

Destination Germany: A Melting Pot

One of the items on my to-do list (and I do love my to-do lists) for my trip is to soak in a bit more of the culture of Berlin. So when my dad told me about an annual Economic Development Fayre (where the German government gives embassies from around the world an opportunity to promote their countries and cultures under one roof), I took up the opportunity to drop by the fayre after church.

It was a fun learning experience, for one, I didn’t know there were so many countries (African and otherwise) represented in Germany.

Here are snippets from the fare:

Togo: the ambassdor gave me a free bracelet 🙂

Nigeria: promoting their export products

Nicaragua: tourism

Anyone know what that sign says?

It was a well spent Sunday Afternoon, the weather was awesome (hot actually), the atmosphere was great, not forgetting the free samples of food (that I didn’t try because none of it looked healthy enough but it sure smelled good). Berlin,  I’m learning is a melting pot of different cultures.

Guten tag.

Destination Germany: The Neighborhood (Pankow, Berlin)

I have only been in Berlin a couple of days and haven’t seen much yet.

My touring so far has just been around the neighbourhood, running errands for my mum who isn’t mobile at the moment as she waits to have surgery (I believe God heals all our diseases and my mum will be walking and dancing me down the aisle one day soon…I digress…)

So anyway I thought I’d share in pictures what I have seen so far on my walks to the local grocery store and shops.

Travel Blog: Destination Germany

The Curvyafricandiva has left Africa (Zambia because we all know Africa isnt a country)

I am currently visiting my family (mum, dad and brother) who live in Berlin,  Germany. It’s my second visit and unlike last time, when my activities were mainly made up of shopping (I love my shopping), I plan to do more sightseeing and appreciate the culture more.

German Flag

Here’s my to do list:
1. Tour most of the touristy places, historical buildings, museums and other such places.
2. Cars! I am in Germany after all so car watching is definitely on my list
3. Get in touch with nature,  meditate, for God to draw me close.  I long for a deeper connection.
4. Visit a church and learn something new in terms of Praise and Worship.
5. Food. Got to try out some traditional German food…as long as it’s within my healthy eating plan of course.  Although, I’m not a big fan of sausages and last time i was here the chef kept serving sausages for breakfast but I will try to be open-minded about other kinds of food.
6. Shopping!  Self-confessed shopaholic. You know how we do.
7. Family time. That’s why I’m here after all; to spend time with my mum especially.

Guten tag

Health Journey: Step Up Your Game

Hi fit fam, I know it’s been a while since  i shared my health journey dramas with you…but not to worry,  im still keeping at it.

So, by my records it has been 12 weeks since I started my health journey and truth be told, I haven’t been going at it as hard as I can. Yes I have lost weight and yes I do look and feel great but like any over- achiever,  getting by just isn’t good enough anymore.

I decided to step up my game, push myself and take my workouts to another level.

Attempt Number 1 consisted if me buying the Insanity Workout dvds which I did for all of 3 days. I hurt my knee and working out alone is so not motivating.  TOTAL FAIL.

Attempt Number 2 was something I had been meaning to do for a while….
A friend of mine, Muz has undergone an ‘out if this world’ transformation (see pic below) and has made it his mission to help others like me meet our fitness/weightloss goals. He has his own company called LIVEFIT and runs boot camp sessions three times a week.

LIVEFIT trainer and Inspiration

To see his transformation is truly inspiring and gives me hope that I can do it too. So I decided to sign up for his boot camp and learn and be trained by an expert.

Mo'nique

(Mo’nique is also an inspiration to me)

Attempt Number 1 Boot Camp: I missed the first day of boot camp because I was running late, got off work late, traffic was mad and to be honest, I was scared….so I went for mid-week church service instead…my body may not have gotten a work out but my spirit sure did.

Attempt Number 2 Boot Camp: I didn’t have traffic for an excuse and got there with 20 minutes to spare. I was so nervous, my tummy was in knots and I felt sick.A part of me wanted to bail but I knew it was for my own good (part of this has to do with the psychological scars from high school of always coming out last in athletics etc) Needless to say,  I survived my first day. The other boot campers were very supportive and were made up of people of all fitness levels (so my fears of reliving high school were just in my head).

The best part of day 1 for me was the end lol…okay the best part was the sprints we did and the worst were the burpees and the frog jumps- these made me close to throwing up (yep, that bad)

image

Before: contemplating bailing out

After: so glad its over

Muz: the trainer

As I write this I’ve successfully made it through my 2nd boot camp session.  The highlights of today’s session definitely have to be the “suicides” and with a name like that, not for a good reason.

Weightloss Stats: 1.4kgs down
Goal for the week: 1kg

If you feel like your workout routine is getting mundane, I challenge you to step up your game.

Love,
Team Curvy and Fit 🙂
